eOBC

Objectives

The system evaluates the performance and reliability of a card-edge connector for subsystem interfacing and demonstrates RS485 multipoint communication within a nanosatellite environment. In addition, it assesses the feasibility of using STM32 microcontrollers as a replacement for legacy PIC-based systems in both main processing and communication operations.

Testing

The eOBC underwent radiation and performance testing to validate its reliability in a space environment. In addition, performance benchmarking was conducted against the PIC18-based MainPIC used in the current OBC. Metrics such as current consumption, temperature, RAM usage, and flash utilization were evaluated to assess the feasibility and efficiency of the STM32-based architecture.

Key Enhancements

1. Higher processing performance and enhanced debugging capabilities
2. Improved pin flexibility for system integration
3. Enhanced mechanical and electrical interfacing
4. Hybrid architecture for increased redundancy and robustness
