Backplane

Backplane Board Overview

The Backplane Board (BPB) serves as the central interface connecting all CubeSat systems and subsystems, ensuring reliable communication and integration across the satellite. It distributes power to all onboard boards while enabling data transfer between mission payloads and the bus through a CPLD. By reducing the need for extensive wiring, the BPB minimizes harness complexity and simplifies overall system integration, resulting in a more efficient and maintainable architecture.

Access Board

The access board is a development support interface used to connect to all subsystems for programming and monitoring. It enables engineers to upload software, access system data, and read outputs through a terminal during testing and integration phases.

CPLD & Mission Boss

The Backplane Board (BPB) integrates both the CPLD and Mission Boss to manage communication and control across mission payloads. The CPLD handles signal multiplexing, routing UART communication between mission systems and the OBC, as well as managing SPI access to shared mission flash memory located on the OBC/EPS board. In parallel, the Mission Boss is responsible for controlling the power lines of the mission payloads, enabling selective activation and isolation of individual systems.
